FAQs about Kamailio
Kamailio is designed both to manage trunks within an existing network and to allow access to it, that is, it can be arranged as the first element of the network, exposed to the internet, where through its security modules and DDoS it would be in charge of control the legitimate access of those who do not.
That is, it can play the role of SBC.
Kamailio is a SIP proxy, and as such it only routes signaling traffic, but it is intended to work in conjunction with a media server. It has various modules for media management, in such a way that by adding an RTPProxy or an RTP Engine, Kamailio will modify the SDP to make use of the RTP server that it has configured.
Kamailio can act with the role of SIP Registrar, that is, it has a registration server that will receive REGISTER requests and store them internally, either in the database or in RAM or both.
Kamailio allows you to manage the dispatch of calls from one trunk to another based on the numbering, that is, both the source number and the destination number, or even from some other specific header. It is also possible that the trunks are monitored by OPTIONS, Kamailio will send OPTIONS and respond to them in case the other end has OPTIONS monitoring enabled.
